Produced by Niepoort Vinhos in the Douro Valley, the 2024 represents a declared vintage, a designation reserved only for years of exceptional quality. Vintage Port is made from a single harvest and aged briefly in cask before long-term bottle ageing, often developing over decades.
The 2024 vintage marks a significant declaration across leading houses, noted for its precision, structure and balance rather than sheer power. Niepoort’s expression is built from traditional field blends of indigenous Douro varieties (including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and others), sourced from old vineyards on schist soils, which contribute both depth and mineral complexity.
Tasting note:
The wine shows an opaque purple-black core, with an intensely aromatic profile of blackberry, cassis and dark cherry, layered with rock rose, rosemary and lavender, alongside a distinct schist-driven mineral note. On the palate it is full-bodied and structured, with dense, fine tannins and vibrant acidity providing tension and longevity. Flavours of dark fruits, spice and herbal nuances unfold with precision, supported by a firm, age-worthy backbone. The finish is long, focused and persistent, combining power with freshness and lift.
A refined and classical Vintage Port, defined by balance, aromatic complexity and exceptional ageing potential, with a projected drinking window extending over several decades but approachable in its youth.
Wines will land in the UK from Portugal in September.
